The myriad problems facing urban, disadvantaged children are well documented. In the midst of affluent Monmouth County - named one of Money Magazine’s most desirable places in the United States to live - there are still impoverished neighborhoods with the same problems associated with larger urban cities such as Camden and Newark. The casualties of Red Bank’s West Side, the housing projects in Long Branch, and the streets of Neptune and Asbury Park are children.
The key to breaking the endless cycle of poverty and crime in urban America is touching the lives of young people. Once patterns of drug & alcohol abuse, illiteracy and hopelessness are ingrained in an adult’s life, they are almost impossible to reverse. The overwhelming failure of our social welfare system is a testimony to this fact. Children will either become the hope of tomorrow or they will become the problems we all will face in our communities. Reaching children before negative and destructive behavior patterns become hopelessly ingrained in their lives is the only hope for a brighter future. An ounce of prevention truly is worth a pound of cure!
Since 1975, Aslan Youth Ministries has been making a
difference each and every day in the lives of disadvantaged youth in Monmouth
County through: Mentor/Tutoring, Character Development Classes, Recreational
Activities; Summer Camps; Bicycling Programs; Counseling; Scholarship
Assistance; Food & Clothing Assistance. Currently celebrating our 26th
year of service, the value of Aslan’s programs is evident in the lives of the
many Aslan graduates who have overcome great obstacles to achieve success. To
name but a few:
