First of all, I want to offer you our warmest wishes for this blessed Advent Season. As Aslan prepares to celebrate 30 years of ministry in February, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for all of you who have walked with us and supported us through the years. We have always striven for excellence in our stewardship of the resources God has provided, and your prayers, financial support and encouragement have made the difference in the success of this ministry.

Over the past year we’ve done some serious analysis of our income and expenses. Aslan has always been very frugal with spending, but skyrocketing costs that are beyond our control ~ like auto, liability and health insurance ~ are now threatening our ability to carry on our vital mission to these children we are privileged to serve. I could write pages about rising expenses, but I’ll share just one example. Aslan’s vehicle insurance renewal for October was $20,000 for 3 vans, a school bus and a 1992 Honda Civic (despite our excellent driving record)! Without the resources we need, we’ve been forced to temporarily park two vans that we use to carry children to and from Bible classes, tutoring and activities. By January we must find a way to insure these vans, as it’s hurting our programs and hurting the kids.

And our love for the children is the bottom line with Aslan. We love children that many people don’t love and don’t care about ~ children from desperate homes and situations that are hard to imagine. We love children who most find hard to love (and most give up on without even trying). But because we love these children with God’s love, we see lives rescued day-after-day, year-after-year. We see Chris, a top Navy scientist. We see Melanie, a nurse with such love for people. We see Kerry, a 23-year-old sergeant faithfully serving our country in Iraq. And we see Chris, Melanie and Kerry in every child God sends to us.

The backbone of our giving ~ individual supporters like you ~ dropped an alarming 20 percent last year! Without a strong December financially, some of our programs may not go on. For almost 30 years children have been rescued through Aslan. With your help, generations more to come will also be helped. We hope and pray that you will give, as God leads you, to this ministry that we love (and that we know God loves) so much.
